Everyone possesses some type of interest. Personal interests may encompass hobbies, arts, crafts, sports, food, entertainment, and volunte
ering. Anything that brings you joy, fulfillment, or sparks passion and aligns with your values belongs to this category.
I have always been a dog person. My love for dogs goes back as far as I can remember. Today, I continually seek out reliable information to help keep my aging dogs with me for as long as possible.

Late morning yesterday, I panicked when I noticed Lakota's posture. She wasn't stretching her back legs anymore; instead, she was bending them into a semi-sitting position. My initial response was to put on her hip brace with Thermacare heat wraps, along with her drop foot brace. I usually don't use two devices on the same day, but her condition seemed urgent, and I felt I needed to act right away. She appeared more uncomfortable than usual, despite having received her prescribed 100mg of carprofen with her morning meal.
Jump to last night. I used red light therapy on her hips and spine, along with some light physical therapy. Something seemed off. I'm very meticulous about her health, so what was I overlooking? What went wrong?
AI (Artificial Intelligence) to the rescue. My fascination with AI began over a year ago while I was employed as a technical support specialist. I acquired enough knowledge to utilize it effectively, making my job significantly more manageable. Engaging with AI is similar to conversing with an expert; it serves as an assistant capable of processing information, generating content, and automating tasks, thereby boosting your productivity. Most importantly, it can brainstorm with you to simplify seemingly complex issues. Knowing that AI is not perfect, we must shift our approach from blind trust (which people nowadays do too often) to active verification.
Back to last night...
I had a lengthy brainstorming session with Gemini, Google's AI platform. By providing information I already had about Lakota's age, weight, diet, etc., I was able to determine what was missing, what was wrong and now have a customized Daily Feeding and Care Guide for Lakota.

What did I Learn?
Muscle meats such as turkey are very rich in phosphorus but do not provide enough calcium to balance it. For months, Lakota's diet has mainly included turkey. To maintain balanced blood chemistry, her body has extracted
the necessary calcium from her bones, leading to weakened bones and increased arthritis pain. It's advised to give her "all in one meal completers" with her meat source, as bone meal is very high in phosphorus and not recommended.
For a 66-pound dog, administering 100mg of carprofen twice daily exceeds the standard dose. The FDA-approved dosage for carprofen is 2mg per pound of body weight per day. Therefore, for Lakota: 66 lbs x 2mg/lb = 132mg total per day. She was receiving 200mg daily, which likely explains why the Vet noted that Lakota's liver enzymes were "a little high." However, the Vet also mentioned that "this condition is common with senior dogs." I am not taking this information lightly and have begun re-administering the correct daily dosage.
The safe supplements I am already administering:
Pure Fish Oil
Muscle powder
Medicinal mushrooms: Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps
Prebotics
Milk Thistle

Most importantly, I was slowing adding fuel to the fire and shortening her life with uneducated love.
