Dogs need wholesome foods to stay healthy, just like we do.
Prebiotics - undigestible carbohydrate compounds that feed probiotic bacteria, which helps beneficial bacteria grow. They travel, undigested through the stomach and intestines and sit in the colon. They change to fatty acids that become a source of food for good bacteria, which helps them strengthen and grow.
Dandelion Greens, Chicory Root, Pumpkin, Beet Pulp, Lentils
Probiotics - Beneficial bacteria that live in the GI tract. This "good" bacteria work to make vitamins, help with digestion and strengthen the immune system. Eating rancid food, new food, stress, parasites, infection and antibiotics can damage the healthy bacteria in your Pup's gut.
Broccoli, Banana, Sweet Potato, Cottage Cheese, Kefir
During any period of diet change, it is important to keep an eye on your Pup's feeding, behavior and toilet habits, so be careful and aware how much of the above-mentioned foods your Pup is consuming. Too much of anything is good for nothing, aka "overkill".
When purchasing, make sure the product is labeled for Dogs, not humans and contains the following:
Lactobacillus plantarium
Lactobacillus salivarius
Lactobacillus reuteri
Lactobacillus fermentum
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Bifidobacterium animalis

I am currently experiencing a negative occurrence in my Pup Sultan's gut health. No food changes, exposure or consumption of harmful substances. Frequent, watery toilet visits to the backyard overnight causes great worry. Was it the endless firework booms and bangs over the 4th holiday? Sultan (a rescue from Alabama) is extremely upset by them and was frightened out of his fur when we walked him a day or two ago. This appears to be the 3rd day of diarrhea, whereas it is all water. I started him back on probiotics, added a hydration supplement to his water, bathed him, washed all bedding, and put a call into his Vet.
